ECHO — See With Sound

A stealth descent through the dark where you see by pinging sonar. Every ping reveals the room, and every ping tells them exactly where you are.

Overview

ECHO is a stealth game built around one cruel trade. You’re descending through darkness you can’t see, and your only way to perceive the room is a sonar ping. Ping, and the walls light up for a moment. Ping, and everything hunting you now knows exactly where you are.

See with sound, but they hear you. That’s the whole loop, and it makes every single ping a decision instead of a reflex.

How to play

WASD or arrows to move, SPACE or click to send a sonar ping, ESC or P to pause, M to mute. Find the crystal, descend to the next depth, and don’t be heard. Get heard and the run ends with your deepest dive recorded, then you dive again.

What makes it interesting

  • Perception is the resource — you don’t have a flashlight, you have echolocation, and using it is inherently risky
  • The core tension is self-inflicted — the thing that lets you navigate is the same thing that gets you caught, so restraint is the skill
  • Descend-and-beat-your-depth loop — a clean roguelike-style score chase where every death teaches you to ping less
  • Sound as a mechanic, not decoration — the audio design is load-bearing, the game literally doesn’t work without it

Highlights

  • Sonar-vision stealth — you reveal the world one risky ping at a time
  • Depth-based score chase with a deepest-dive record
  • Restraint-driven design — the winning move is often not to look
