HARBORLIGHT — A Cove That Builds Itself

A cozy tidal cove that builds itself around your nudges. Driftwood washes ashore, you spend it on piers and cottages, and tiny villagers wake, row out, fish, and lantern home as the tide breathes.

Overview

HARBORLIGHT is a cozy watch-not-manage god-game set on a single fixed-screen cove. Driftwood washes ashore on the tide; you spend it placing piers, cottages, boats, a market, a shrine, a lighthouse. Then the tiny villagers actually live — they wake at dawn, row out, fish, sell at the market, and lantern home at dusk — while the tide breathes and the day/night cycle repaints the world. No fail state, no timers. You place a thing, the cove reacts with visible new life, and small milestones pull you gently forward.

Like the rest of these titles, it’s pure browser: vanilla JS ES modules, no build, no dependencies, canvas-drawn art and WebAudio-synthesized sound — zero external assets.

How it works

The tide is the clock and the economy at once. It delivers driftwood, so what you can build is paced by the sea rather than by a resource bar you micromanage. Each structure you place adds a new behavior to the villagers’ daily routine, so the cove’s life visibly compounds as it grows.

What makes it interesting

  • The tide is the economy — resources arrive on a natural rhythm, so building is paced by the sea, not by a spreadsheet.
  • Life that compounds — every structure adds a step to the villagers’ day, so the cove’s routine grows richer the more you place.
  • Watch, don’t manage — no fail state, no timers; milestones nudge instead of pressure.
  • Self-contained — canvas art and synthesized audio mean it loads instantly and runs anywhere, no assets to fetch.

Highlights

  • Vanilla JS ES modules — no build step, no CDN, no dependencies, no external assets
  • Tide-driven driftwood economy that paces construction organically
  • Full villager day-loop (row out, fish, sell, lantern home) over a breathing day/night cycle
